Last week we understood that basically money is a means of storing value and of exchanging value. We can turn our money into educational experiences for children, trip, paint to change the color of the bathroom, or a haircut. But, we can also exchange our money for Kingdom of God initiatives? And, here at First Church, that's exactly what we're doing. We are reaching out to the community-at-large with initiatives like:
- Buddy Break
- Helping open a free legal clinic to help people find a legal path to citizenship in the U.S
- Host a mobile medical clinic from Advocate Children’s Hospital for medical exams and inoculations
- Friday Food distribution or the Mobile Food Pantry or packing 100,000 meals for people in other places
- Be part of a network of churches in Crystal Lake to develop partnerships with the elementary schools for tutoring and Weekend Food Backpacks
- And so much more
As we gather our resources together in the year ahead by our regular giving, we are declaring that we trust in God to provide for us individually and collectively. We are trusting in the Lord that we are called and commissioned to make a difference in the healing of the world. We are trusting in the Lord that we can stand firm, give generously and joyfully, put ourselves out there because we are part of the Jesus Uprising against the ways of the world and we’re willing to put our money behind it.
