Bible Text:
Matthew 21:33-46
This  week in worship we engage again in the Parables of Jesus. This parable, at first reading is about a certain landowner who entrusted his tenant farmers with the harvest of his vineyards. When harvest time came, the tenant farmers decided to keep the profits from the harvest for themselves. They killed the owner's servants and even his son to prevent them from collecting the owner's share of the harvest.
When the religious leaders of his time asked Jesus if the landowner would kill the tenant farmers, Jesus answered them with these words:
43 I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit.
44 Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on.:
45 When the leading priests and Pharisees heard this parable, they realized he was telling the story against them - they were the wicked farmers.
46 They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet. Matthew 21: 43-46
This parablel represents God's last chance - for the religious leaders back then, for us here and now, for all people everywhere and always. This is why Jesus said of himself that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
