We cannot “live the Christian life” without the Holy Spirit. The best we can do is either sentimental aspirations or moral exhaustion. Neither is what the Scripture describes as being a “believer” The role/ministry/presence of the Holy Spirit is generally perceived as leading to either ecstasy or steadiness of some sort. The Scriptures embrace both – and much more. With this first look into the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives we anticipate that God’s mystical, practical, expansive, unbridled presence in the world is found where we least expect it – in every breath we take, in social transformation, in community, in hostile situations, and in serious learning.
