Advent

by First Church
Advent encompasses the four Sundays/weeks prior to Christmas and started this past Sunday. Advent marks the beginning of the Christian calendar because it is the beginning of Jesus’ story, starting with the anticipation and expectation of God sending the Messiah. Sometimes we hear the words: hope, peace, joy and love during this season. Sometimes, like this year, we hear the words: wait, watch, prepare, praise. In whatever way we experience Advent, it is a time for looking toward the coming of the Lord into our lives.
Some ways you can participate in the Advent season with First Church include:
- In-person and online worship services that keep us looking forward to what God is doing.
- Advent Bible Study with Pastor Lisa on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. On December 8, 15 and 22, we will study the prophecies of the Messiah.
- Using one of the Advent Devotionals found here, or by visiting your RightNow Media account and searching “Advent”.
- Participating in Santa’s Wonderland on December 11
- Attending the Christmas Concert on December 12
- Christmas Eve services at 4, 9 and 11 p.m.
However you choose to move through Advent, may it be a blessed time for you, in which you encounter our God, who has chosen to come be with us. God bless you.
