Time for Prayer at First Church During Holy Week
Through the years First Church has had a tradition of a special opportunity to pray in Hale Chapel during the Holy Triduum, the “Great Three Days” of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and Resurrection Sunday. This seems like four days to us, but the biblical pattern of counting days begins at sundown to sundown (so, Thursday evening to Friday evening, Friday to Saturday, and Saturday to Sunday….so, just three days.)
This year we are putting our prayer focus on seven prayer stations focused on the seven words of Christ from the cross. Come to Room 232 to spend some time entering into the journey with Jesus, find yourself among the jeering crowd, plead with Him to “remember me when you come into your Kingdom”, join his prayer, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” In prayer we draw close to the Lord and experience the depth of his love for us in a personal and poignant way.
We will not have the church building open on a 24 hour basis and will not have hosts providing food and other prayer resources.
The prayer stations will be open on Thursday, April 18, noon – 10 p.m.
On Friday, April 19th, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
On Saturday, April 20th, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Take some time to stop, pray, reflect, and re-connect during these special days of devotion.
If you are unable to come to the church, you can pray with us in your own sacred space at home or work. Simply download the guidebook to participate where you can.
