Misison Parterner Update: Bethany Hope Home and Coventry School

by First Church
First Church has partnered with two school for the past few years, one across the globe, and the other just down the street. Take a moment to read about each one and we encourage you to continue supporting them through Faith Promise.
BETHANY HOPE HOME
Bethany Hope Home is an education program that works with orphaned and vulnerable children in Nigeria.
Hope Education Program
Orphaned and vulnerable children can make it if just given a chance – and education is the key. Back2Back’s Hope Education Program combines three key components to break the cycle of generational poverty-going beyond care for today by creating hope for tomorrow.
- Build in the kids a concept to grow as healthy family who lives together and prepare them to be healthy neighbors to others in their community.
- Education as the key of success of the program.
- Prepare and provide the right resources to find meaningful employment, and life skills to maintain independence. (6 Years of support).
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
All of these components are good on their own, but together they provide the best chance to break the cycle of generational poverty. Armed with the experience of how a healthy family lives together, an education to find meaningful employment, and life skills to maintain independence, Hope Education Program students are prepared to be healthy neighbors to others in their community.
COVENTRY SCHOOL & KIDS HOPE USA
First Church has enjoyed a partnership with Coventry Elementary school for nearly four years. In the past, we have provided mentoring programs, school supplies, winter clothing, eyeglasses, teacher appreciation lunches, summer activity bags and meal bags. We recently resumed the meal bag collection, and those bags will be picked up at the school by parents since children are learning remotely. Most other programs have been put on hold until face-to-face meetings are considered safe.
Faith Promise funds help with the purchase of programming for the mentoring program called Kids Hope. Kids Hope USA was started 25 years ago by Hope College in Holland, MI. It is a mentoring program to help support children who would benefit from a one on one relationship. The church recruits volunteers who are then trained on what to expect as well as given access to an online resource library of ideas to do with your student. In addition to giving the child some needed attention, the volunteers also help with any school work the teacher may send, as well as, reading together.
You can read a testimony of one of our mentors here.
