As we continue our Advent season and hear about the titles for the Messiah in Isaiah, this
week we focus on Everlasting Father. The patriarchal culture long ago thought about God – as a father to all. God does faithfully offer care, compassion/mercy, and protection for all.
Can we truly claim that Jesus – the Son of God – is the Everlasting Father? Yes!
Jesus addressed this himself when describing that the Father and the Son’s identities and
purposes are tied up together. During the Last Supper he declared this himself when he
declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.” The evidence of his works indeed shows us he is the Everlasting Father!
